UPU America organises free medical services at Urhobo Day celebration

The Urhobo Progress Union, America (UPUA) will be conducting free medical outreach program on December 1, 2018 at Uvwiamuge-Agbarho as part of activities marking the 2018 Urhobo Day celebration under the auspices of the Urhobo Progress Union, (UPU) Worldwide.
The celebration is scheduled to hold on Thursday November 29 to Sunday December 2, 2018.
In a statement by the Secretary General of UPUA, Dr Felix Okpe Esq, the free medical outreach program that is open to the public will covers diabetes, hypertension, vision screening and counseling.
He stated that, in recent times, these medical conditions have become very common in Urhobo land leading to avoidable fatalities in many cases and other serious medical conditions in other instances, adding that, the program is designed as an intervention and proactive exercise to tackle these medical challenges in Urhobo land.
According to Okpe, “UPUA is also using the opportunity of the Urhobo day celebration to bring awareness on the dangers of these medical conditions. UPUA is therefore calling on all adult Urhobo sons and daughters to take advantage of this opportunity to get screened and counseled on these medical issues, and where necessary”
He said, UPUA, an affiliate of UPU worldwide is a North America based non-profit umbrella organization of Urhobo organizations whose membership comprises of Urhobo sons and daughters, and others who identify with the Urhobo culture and traditions by marriage and association, stressing that, UPUA membership spread across the United States and Canada.
“Part of UPUA’s objective and mission premised on unity, strength, and progress, include pursuing charitable causes in health care, education, and human capital development in Urhobo land.
Through its charitable causes and intervention, UPUA has contributed to the unity and progressive development in Urhobo land over the years”.
The statement added that, UPUA’s representatives at the Urhobo day celebrations will be joined by volunteers during the scheduled medical outreach program, pointing out that, the program is a demonstration of UPUA’s commitment to qualitative and extensive access to health care in Urhobo land.
