By Charles Oviri
THE newly sworn-in Chairman of Obaro Ara Social Club Lagos, Hon. Agbabule Friday has promised to take the club a level where it will be recognized globally.
Part of his plans, he explained, is to create a website where everybody will have access to the activities of the club across the globe. He also plans to encourage the spread of the club by having its branches in other parts of the world.
Agbabule who was speaking immediately after the inauguration of his team also listed other items on his priority list to include; membership drive, registration of the club at the federal level, debt recovery and a permanent secretariat for the club.
He said that the machinery and network of the club will be used to get responsible and reliable Urhobo sons and daughters in Lagos and in the Diaspora to identify with the club because of the immense benefits accruable to members.
He informed that the club was registered under the local government administration in Bariga Lagos, saying that, he plans to register it with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a legal entity and non-governmental organization, so that the club can use the platform to get support and assistance from private and government organizations.
The new chairman also intend to embark on debt recovery with vigour so that the club will have enough funds to invest and go into other ventures, adding that, the club will also strive to have a permanent location where its secretariat will be situated, urging Urhobo sons and daughters to see what the club stands for.
He however listed some of the privileges accruing to members to include, easy access to soft loan at 5% interest, the type of interest rate not available anywhere, assistance and physical presence of members at any ceremony organized by members among several others.
According to him: “The vision of the club is for Urhobo to come together and speak with one voice, and we also want to use this platform to assist our brothers and sisters in higher institutions financially through scholarship and also sponsor of some of their programmes.
He expressed appreciation to the immediate past chairman, Elder David Emeneh who, he said, worked tirelessly for the club, pointing out that, he assumed office nine years ago with zero account, but he handed over a swollen account of close to a million naira.
Members of the new cabinet are; Hon. Agbabule Friday, Chairman; Mr Samson Sigate, Vice chairman; Madam Rose Udi, Chairperson; Madam Hope Akeni, Vice Chairperson; Mr Samson Oghenede, General Secretary; Mr Jacob Ogbagah, Treasurer; Mr Tebefia Asagba, Financial Secretary; Mr Charles Eyeregba, Spokesman and Friday Okpenero, Chief Whip.
In his speech, the immediate past chairman, Elder David Emeneh appreciated members for the opportunity given to him and his team to serve the club. He said that his regime left a good foundation for his successor to build upon, adding that, he assumed office without any information to work with, but he has provided enough information for the new regime to work with.
He indentified attitude of some executive members who either failed or refused to carry out responsibilities assigned to them as one of the major challenges of his administration, urging the new administration to source for reputable persons as patrons and matrons of the club.
He advised the leadership of the club to be focused and steadfast, no sentiment in decision making process on issues that affect members, and whatever that is due to members should be given to them.
He added that: “I have confidence in the new exco, because they have held various positions in the club at one time or the other in the time past”
