As part of measures aimed at curbing the spread of the dreaded corona virus, the Orovworere of Effurun Otor Kingdom in Ughelli South local government area, HRM Johnson King Duku11, has sponsored the mass production of free face masks to all his subjects.

The traditional ruler, who spoke to our correspondent on his gesture at his palace in Effurun Otor, however warned that buyers and sellers on market days in the community must wear their face masks.

He stated further that, the face masks directive would also affect business transactions in stores, warning that the new directive on compulsory wearing of face masks would be enforced by local vigilante and youths in the area.

While speaking on the lockdown imposed by Delta State Government, the traditional ruler noted that it was painful but inevitable

“It is the surest measure to overcome the pandemic. Countries that toyed with it are the ones suffering the effects of covid-19 most in the world today” He cautioned that test must be carried out to know the actual level of the spread of the disease in Nigeria.

The Effurun Otor monarch disclosed that, on palliatives aimed at cushion the effects of covid-19, he called for contributions from elites in the kingdom to provide foods items to the vulnerable people which include the aged, widows amongst others.

The traditional ruler, who was a contributor to the fund, disclosed that hundreds of packs containing the food items have been distributed to the beneficiaries.

He further averred that food items donated by the Delta State Government and some multinational companies doing business in his domain would be distributed to the people on house to house basis in keeping to the social distance directive of government soon.

He had earlier asserted that Effurun-Otor Kingdom had been very proactive on the issue of covid-19, disclosing that his palace organized a sensitization program on the social distance directive before the enlightenment campaign of government
