AS part of deliberate policy to create employment opportunities for the teeming youths and other employable persons in Ekpan, Uvwie LGA, Delta State, the Employment Unit of Ekpan Development Committee, EDC, has been inaugurated at a brief but impressive ceremony held at the Ekpan Community Town Hall.
Those sworn-in were Harrison Eghrudje, President; Joseph Ukuesa, Vice President; Henry Edemirukewan, Secretary; Otome Iffie Usiviefe, PRO; Luke Umukoro, Treasurer; Efe Orokuku, Auditor; and Francis Ubibi, Adviser. Others were Stanley Ashigbagba, Miss Tega Agaya and Miss Anne Oghenetega Michael.
EDC Chairman, Pastor Barr. Innocent Adjenughure who performed the ceremony, urged members to discharge their duties diligently with the overriding interest of the community at heart.
He added that the EDC under his watch places high importance on employment as a means to communal integration, mutual co-existence, socio-economic stability and growth, as well as sustenance of genuine peace in the area. He stressed that all hands must be on deck towards the realization of the objective.
Adjenughure who is also a constitutional lawyer and human rights activist with an acclaimed flair for dispute resolution, further disclosed that persons below 20 years of age are totally barred from youth groups in the community but should rather be in school or be engaged in one form of skill acquisition or the other.
Amid a standing ovation, the EDC chairman who is also a pastor in Word of Life Bible Church, Warri, added that arrangements are reaching advanced stages to constitute vigilante groups in each of the quarters in Ekpan to further boost security in the area.
Responding, the employment unit president, Harrison Eghrudje expressed gratitude for the honour of the position of such high responsibility and pledged that members would perform to expectations.
He commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his exemplary leadership especially his untiring efforts towards the socio- economic and political growth of Uvwie and the state in general, with strong emphasis on the restoration peace to Ekpan Community.
Eghrudje also gave kudos to HRM Emmanuel E. Sidesoh JP, OON, Abe 1, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom for providing purposeful leadership for Uvwie people and wished him many more years on the throne.
He also hailed the Uvwie local government chairman, Hon. Ramson Onoyake for his courage and wisdom in running the affairs of Uvwie at that level and wished him a successful tenure of office.
