Notoma emerges Udu President-General
* Monarch harps on completion of palace project

THE annual conference of the Udu people held recently was warmly celebrated with the emergence and inauguration of High Chief Godwin Notoma as President General of the Union of Udu Communities, just as the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, HRM Owhorhu 1, has charged the Udu people to step up action in the direction of completing the palace project without any further delay.
Chief Notoma’s swearing-in was part of Udu annual conference and the 25th coronation anniversary of the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, HRM Barr Emmanuel Bethel Otete Delekpe, who was crowned exactly on May 20 and given staff of office in September of same year, 25 years ago.
Handing over to the new President General, High Chief Steve Sokoh JP, who have held the position for two terms of 4 years each, charged the new PG to put Udu first in all his actions and activities so as to move Udu forward, stressing that, the task before the new team was enormous.
In his remarks during the ceremony, the Udu monarch did not hide his displeasure with the non-completion of his palace 25 years into his reign. The Monarch chided the Udu political leaders and technocrats who are doing well in life for not addressing the lack of a befitting palace since his ascension to the throne, calling on the people to wake up and complete the palace in no distant time so he could move in and preside the traditional affairs of the Udu people from the headquarters.
Chairman of the occasion, Engr Mike Orugbo, also expressed disappointment with the leadership of Udu for lack of commitment to the palace project, urging all to rise to the occasion and complete the project without delay. Engr Orugbo who also serves as chairman of the palace building committee urged all those present to show commitment by contributing towards the palace project. The confidence in Engr. Mike Orugbo as a man of probity and unmitigated integrity, according to informed sources was already yielding results and attracting goodwill for the project. He and his committee have reached out to companies, individuals and government to ensure Udu gets a befitting palace for her monarch in no distant time. There are positive signals from the Delta State Government through DESOPADEC for the project to be attended to.
In his address, the new President General, High Chief Godwin Notoma revealed that the attention of his administration would be directed at completing the palace of the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, construction of the Udu Harbour Market and a Second Udu Bridge to reduce the pressure on the existing Bridge built during the administration of Dr Osaigbovo Ogbemudia.
Those sworn in to run affairs of the UUC include Chief Godwin Notoma, President General; Mr. Sunday Cousin, 1st Vice President General; Evang. Andrew Dorkie, 2nd Vice President General; Mr. Efoyibo Austine, Secretary General; Mr Okorugbo Patrick, Assistant Secretary; Barr Chief Elizabeth Okene, Legal Adviser 1; Olorogun Moses Segba, Esq, Legal Adviser 11 and Godfrey Dolor, Treasurer.
Other members of the exco are; Chief Luke Djebah, Financial Secretary; Comrade Johnbull Gbejegbe, Assistant Financial Secretary; Excellence Emuobo Miller, Publicity Secretary; Mr. Samuel Ojitaire, Assistant Publicity Secretary; Mr. Friday Orugbo, Spokesman; Mr Nigeria Okorode, Assistant Spokesman; Mr. Matthew Salami, Welfare Officer; Hon.
